Are you ready for an exciting day full of science and adventure? Celebrate your children's party at Rijksmuseum Boerhaave and discover the fascinating world of science together with your friends! Choose from fun themes such as "The Soap Maker (from 7 y/o)" "The Astronaut (from 8 y/o)" or "The Spider Doctor (from 12 y/o)". You will have the chance to do research like a real scientist with active workshops and tours of the museum. There will be time for lemonade, and the birthday boy or girl will receive a present!
The Soap Maker (from 7 y/o)
Become a real soap maker for a day. Mix your own colours and scents and pour them into moulds in all kinds of shapes. Will you create something sweet, fresh or completely unique? Let your imagination lead the way.
After the workshop, a museum educator will take you on a 45-minute guided tour through the museum. You’ll come face to face with a skeleton, discover how scientists measure the stars, explore how electricity works and learn how you can tell a whale’s age by looking at one of its teeth. And you won’t just be watching — you’ll experiment along the way.
At the end of the tour, you’ll return to the classroom to admire (and smell!) your handmade soaps. Of course, you get to take them home with you.
The Astronaut (from 8 y/o)
Ready for launch? During this party, you and your friends will work together to build a super-fast rocket. In the courtyard, you’ll put your designs to the test. Which rocket flies the highest?
After your launch mission, a museum educator will guide you through the museum for 45 minutes. You’ll see a real skeleton, learn how scientists measure the stars, discover how electricity works and find out how to determine a whale’s age from one of its teeth. Along the way, you’ll carry out experiments yourself.
Back in the classroom, you’ll create your own constellation viewer. Choose your favourite constellation — or invent one of your own — and decorate your viewer to make it truly space-proof.
The Spider Doctor (from 12 y/o)
Design and build your own energy-efficient spider. Using smart techniques, you’ll create a spider that can blink for years on just one small battery. Engineering, creativity and precision come together in this hands-on challenge. And once it’s finished? Give your spider a name that suits its character.
Afterwards, a museum educator will take you on a 45-minute tour through the museum. You’ll explore remarkable objects and big scientific ideas: from skeletons and stars to electricity and whale teeth. You won’t just observe — you’ll experiment and investigate for yourself.

Good to know
- After requesting a children's party, we will contact you to discuss availability. The booking is final after our confirmation.
- A birthday party, for a maximum of ten people, costs €125. It is possible to celebrate a party with a maximum of two groups at the same time.*
- A workshop lasts 90 to 120 minutes. Depending on starting time, it is possible to visit the museum on your own before or after.
- During the party, the children will have a glass of lemonade. The party can also be expanded with cakes, coconut macaroons or ice creams from the museum café. Ask about the possibilities when making your reservation.
- We kindly request that you request the birthday party at least two weeks in advance.
- Payment in cash or by debit card upon arrival.
- Cancellation is free of charge five days in advance. If the party is cancelled less than five days in advance, Rijksmuseum Boerhaave will charge you €75.
