These philosophers are not the type to spend their time buried in books, musing about the world, and speaking in riddles filled with long words - well, at least not all their time. Driven by a desire to tackle complex real-world problems, they apply their philosophy skills to grasp urgent social, technological, or political challenges. Discover the important role philosophy plays in all these different scientific fields!
About the speakers
Four speakers will each give a short talk on the theme of Voice, politics, and responsibility.
- Niclas Rautenberg on the art of balancing power imbalance in shared political conflict
- Tsjalling Swierstra on the necessity to care for those far-away, versus our inclination to rather care for those close-by
- Udo Pesch on involving the voiceless in sustainability challenges
- Nynke van Uffelen on the rights and wrongs of local energy participation panels
This public lecture is part of the week-long Lorentz Center workshop ‘Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Research: Towards a Community’. Everybody who is interested, is welcome to join this public lecture.

When: Thursday the 29th of January 2026. The lecture will be from 19.00 to 20.00 hrs. Feel free to join us for drinks afterwards, from 20.00 to 21.00 hrs. Please note, the museum exhibits will be closed this evening.
